Speech
The purpose of speech-language therapy is to enhance communication via expression of ideas,
obtaining desires, sharing information and interaction between people.
Language is how communication is achieved.
Components of language include but are not limited to:
- understanding/verbal expression
- facial/manual gestures
- tone of voice
- body orientation
Physical
Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder. This means that most people on the autism
spectrum have delays, differences or disorders in many areas -- including gross and fine motor skills.
Children on the spectrum may have low muscle tone, or have a tough time with coordination and sports.
These issues can interfere with basic day-to-day functioning -- and they're almost certain to interfere
with social and physical development.

Occupational
Commonly focuses on improving fine motor skills, or sensory motor skills that include
balance (vestibular system), awareness of body position (proprioceptive system), and
touch (tactile system).
After the therapist identifies a specific problem, therapy may include sensory integration
activities such as: massage, firm touch, swinging, and bouncing.
